Chris

Front Desk/Receptionist

Chris decided to enter the veterinary field because she wanted to make a positive difference in the lives people and their pets. She got the chance to do so a year into her career, when a client she had grown close with couldn’t be present to help their terminally ill pet cross the rainbow bridge. Chris stepped in to offer care and support in their absence – a gesture that brought great comfort to the grieving client.

A veteran of the industry, Chris started her journey 30 years ago, when she was hired as a kennel aid and worked her way up to an assistant role. Professionally, Chris particularly enjoys the personal aspect of veterinary care, something that has become even more important since COVID hit. Getting to know each client and their beloved fur baby, and calling them by name offers a much-needed personal touch.

Not surprisingly, Chris views her own pets as her children. She is currently fur-mom to four frisky felines named Owen, Karma, Nova and L.C.

When she’s not busy working or cuddling with her kitties, Chris can usually be found nose-deep in a good book. She’s even contemplated writing a book of her own one day. In addition to reading and writing, Chris also enjoys drawing and gardening. There’s something very satisfying about growing your own stuff.

Christine

Receptionist

For more than three decades, Chris has been a familiar and welcoming face at Veterinary Health Center. Her career with the clinic began over 30 years ago, when she started working in the kennels. Over the years, she has filled a variety of roles, always stepping in wherever she was needed. Today, she serves as receptionist, greeting clients and their pets with the same warmth and dedication that have defined her entire career.

Chris’s interest in veterinary medicine started early. She grew up in Saginaw with four siblings and a large extended family. Like many others in the field, she formed strong bonds with her childhood pets. One of the family dogs suffered from skin allergies, and that experience left her wishing she could do more to help. That feeling stayed with her, leading her to study Animal Science at Michigan State University. Though she considered continuing to veterinary school, she realized her true passion was supporting both pets and their people in whatever way she could.

What Chris loves most about her work is the opportunity to connect with families over time. She enjoys watching clients and their pets grow with the practice, sharing in both milestones and challenges. For her, veterinary medicine is as much about relationships as it is about health, and she feels privileged to play a role in each family’s journey.

At home, Chris shares her life with two cats: Bunny, a 15-year-old kitty who manages health issues with feline grace, and Mabel, her spirited and rambunctious two-year-old sister, who keeps things lively. Outside of work, Chris enjoys gardening, cooking, reading, and spending time with her large extended family. She is currently in the process of rebuilding her home after a fire, and has found new joy in making her house a true home once again. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, reading, and spending time with her extended family.

For Chris, Veterinary Health Center is more than a workplace: it’s a second family and a lifelong calling.

Kevin

Digital Records Clerk

Kevin may not have a job working directly with animals, but that doesn’t stop him from sneaking in some snuggles and cuddles with the kitties while they await procedures. His love of felines has also inspired him to volunteer at several of our adoption events. Being able to assist in their journey to their “furever” homes is incredibly fulfilling.

Kevin joined the Veterinary Health Center team in December of 2014. In his role as Digital Records Clerk, Kevin is responsible to making sure all of our patient files are kept secure and up-to-date. He has become an integral and well-loved part of the team over the years and we are lucky to have him!

Outside of the clinic, Kevin’s interests include cats (of course), computers, gaming and music. He also enjoys playing badminton and going bowling. At home, Kevin has one cat of his own – Tommy, a senior Tonkinese who loves to be carried stretched out on his back and cuddling up on Kevin’s pillow at night.

Jordan

Receptionist & Assistant

Jordan joined Veterinary Health Center in March, bringing with her a lifelong love of animals and a knack for making both pets and their humans feel at ease. Born and raised in Bay City, Jordan grew up in a bustling household filled with pets of all kinds: a Labrador named Taz, a spirited kitty named Sox (aka Stinky), two mischievous chinchillas, and a lively assortment of fish, lizards, and frogs. From an early age, she found herself more fascinated by the animals at gatherings than the people, quietly seeking them out and forming bonds that would shape her path forward.

Her journey in animal care began with pet sitting as a child, an experience that sparked a passion for helping animals who cannot speak for themselves. This passion guided her to gain experience at other clinics and eventually led her to Veterinary Health Center, where she thrives as part of the front-line team supporting patients and clients alike.

Jordan loves forming genuine connections with every pet and person who walks through the doors. From comforting a nervous cat to celebrating a puppy’s first check-up, she delights in the everyday victories that make veterinary care so meaningful. She is also constantly learning, embracing new skills and knowledge with curiosity and enthusiasm.

Outside the clinic, Jordan’s life is equally full of joy and adventure. She lives with her three cats—Zelda, affectionately known as Alien, Raven, an FIP survivor who carries her candy corn plushie everywhere, and Violet, a tiny gremlin with oversized ears and tail. Jordan also cares for a local outdoor cat colony. When she’s not caring for animals, she enjoys crafts, puzzles, camping, and cuddling up with her feline companions.

Jordan’s warmth, dedication, and lifelong devotion to animals shine through in every interaction, making her a cherished member of the Veterinary Health Center family.

Amanda

Veterinary Assistant/Manager

Amanda’s story with Veterinary Health Center began in 2009, when she started volunteering as a kennel assistant to gain experience for school. By the fall of 2010, she was officially part of the team, and well on her way to making a career out of a lifelong passion. In 2016, Amanda advanced to the role of veterinary assistant. She continues to embrace every opportunity to learn and grow her knowledge in the ever-evolving field of veterinary medicine.

Her inspiration to pursue this career started with Buddy, her childhood dog. Buddy began having seizures while Amanda, a Saginaw native, was still in elementary school. Several years later, he injured his back playing in the yard. Her life course was also impacted by a second pet, her beloved cat Ollie, whom Amanda refers to as her “soul cat”. Found abandoned and diagnosed with FIV, Ollie became Amanda’s constant source of comfort during some rough times, and taught her just how strong and healing that special human-animal bond can be. Helping her beloved animal companions navigate these challenges gave Amanda a firsthand look at the impact veterinary care can make, and helped her realize that her calling was in the veterinary field.

In her work, Amanda is especially devoted to helping spicy pets, the nervous or defensive ones who arrive at the clinic unsure of what to expect. She takes pride in finding ways to help them feel safe, and she treasures the moments when a once-fearful pet begins to feel comfortable with and perhaps even enjoy their visits. She also enjoys drawing bloodwork and giving the occasional lion cut, which never fails to make cats look both adorable and majestic. She also values the connection that can be built with both pets and owners.

Today, Amanda’s family includes her loyal dog, Kilo; her two cats, Shadow and Addie; her boyfriend, Josh; his son, Sebastian; and her daughters, Lilith and Gemma.

For Amanda, veterinary medicine is more than a career: it’s a calling fueled by compassion, connection, and a deep love for every animal she meets.

Elly

Veterinary Assistant

Elly Hetherington joined Veterinary Health Center in 2022 after moving to the Saginaw area, bringing her passion for animals and hands-on experience to her role as a veterinary assistant.

Growing up in Bay City, Michigan, with her parents, two brothers, and sister, Elly was surrounded by pets from an early age. Her journey into veterinary care began in high school when she took animal science classes, quickly discovering that supporting animals in need was a calling she wanted to pursue.

A pivotal moment for Elly came in middle school when she got her very first puppy, Lacy. She attended every vet appointment with Lacy to help her feel safe and comfortable. Watching the veterinary staff care for her puppy with compassion and skill inspired Elly to dedicate herself to helping animals—not just her own, but all animals who needed support and gentle care.

Elly gained early experience through a high school co-op at a local veterinary clinic, followed by work at a clinic in Bay City after graduation. Since moving to the Saginaw area, she has continued her career at Veterinary Health Center, eager to expand her knowledge and provide excellent care to every patient she encounters.

What Elly enjoys most about her work is helping nervous or anxious animals become more comfortable in the clinic, and seeing them respond positively over time. She finds joy in building trust with pets and their owners, making every visit as calm and reassuring as possible.

At home, Elly lives in Freeland with her husband and their two cats, Ralph and Morticia, who bring laughter and personality to her daily life. Her love for animals, combined with her patience, empathy, and dedication, makes her an invaluable part of the Veterinary Health Center team, where every animal receives the care, attention, and compassion they deserve.

Angela

Kennel Manager

A native of Bay City, MI, Angie grew up an only child, so she formed a connection and companionship with animals at a young age. She yearned to find a job that would allow her to be around animals, care for them and learn more about them. She landed a position at Veterinary Health Center as a kennel manager and has been thrilled to be in the presence of a variety of animals!

Angie’s first job in the veterinary field was at a pet shop and after that, she spent years working for animal control. These positions gave her the valuable experience and knowledge to prepare her for her role dealing with animals at Veterinary Health Center. She loves the fact that her duties change on a daily basis, and enjoys being around her co-workers and clients.

When she’s not working at the health center, Angie enjoys spending time with her 3 children, infant granddaughter and her dog, Baleigh. She loves being outside in warm weather, whether it’s enjoying a trip to the beach or lake or going camping.

Ryan

Inventory Control Agent

Ryan joined Veterinary Health Center in early 2023, bringing a mix of business expertise and a lifelong love of animals to his role. Born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, Ryan grew up surrounded by pets of all kinds—from Tonkinese cats and Persian felines to Standard Poodles and even saltwater fish with vibrant corals. These early experiences instilled in him a deep appreciation for the unique personalities and needs of every animal he encounters, shaping the care and attention he brings to his work today.

Ryan’s journey into veterinary support was as practical as it was personal. With an MBA in general business, he found a perfect fit in inventory and operations at the clinic, ensuring that everything from medications to parasiticides is accurately forecasted and available when needed. For Ryan, this work is about more than numbers—it’s about supporting the care team so they can provide the best outcomes for patients, and helping the clinic run smoothly behind the scenes.

One of the animals closest to Ryan’s heart is his Yorkie, Zak, who lived with Cushing’s disease. Thanks to attentive care and guidance from Dr. Tina, Zak enjoyed a happy, mostly normal life—a testament to the power of dedicated veterinary care and the difference a well-prepared team can make. Experiences like this remind Ryan why every detail, from inventory management to team coordination, truly matters in keeping pets healthy.

Ryan also enjoys connecting with his coworkers, sharing laughs and insights that make every day at the clinic rewarding. Outside of work, he is an avid tennis and pickleball player, with several tournament wins to his name. At home, he shares his space with Katie, his spirited cat, who entertains him daily by “boxing” with neighborhood cats through the sliding glass door—a routine that never fails to bring a smile.

Whether forecasting supplies, organizing inventory, or cheering on his cat’s antics, Ryan brings care, precision, and a touch of humor to Veterinary Health Center, ensuring that every patient, pet parent, and staff member has what they need to thrive.
